![]() PS2: Although I do possess a standardised socket and plug for connecting to the battery via a method comparable to the cigarettelighter I do not use them, drilling an extra hole somewhere else is not to my liking. Constant voltage in the non-speed mode is about 15,8 Volts, way above the voltage of 14,5 Volts Lucas alternators are limited on. I still have such an unit in a metal case and a classical Amperage meter with needle and it also has a speed charging option. ![]() PS For my other car with an almost depleted battery the use of a classical, non-regulated constant voltage charger was advised by both my battery seller as well as my garage for an overnight period. Charging voltage never exceeds 14,8 Volts I believe. If the battery is degraded it automatically tries to restore its function by pulsed charging. My CTEK stops charging after -over a number of days- the final charging state is reached and intermittently over longer periods checks again and if needed charges again. Super easy, and nobody will see the small wire when it's tucked up under the carpet.Įdited 1 time(s). When you're ready to use it, pull the wire out from underneath the carpet, plug it into the long cord from the battery tender, and then plug the tender into the outlet. ![]() The plug end of the wire tucks under your carpet, out of sight. Now replace the battery compartment lid, and then put your carpet piece back in place. If you use option #1 and cut a notch for the wire, be sure to wrap several layers of electrical tape around the wire at the point it passes through the notch, to keep it from getting cut or frayed against sharp edges. Drill a hole in the top of the compartment lid, install the grommet, and pass the cord up through the grommet. 1: cut a notch in the side of the battery compartment lid above the battery, big enough for the charger wire to pass through, OR 2: go to the hardware store and get a grommet that has an opening big enough for the charger wire plug to pass through. Pull the battery cables off the battery, and then attach the permanent charger wire to the battery cable clamps (tension bolt through the ring terminals) re-attach the cables to the battery. Gain access to your battery: remove the carpet piece and pop off the battery compartment lid. You can choose from either the "temporary" wire that has alligator clips, or the "permanent" wire with ring terminals I use the latter. Included with the charger are two shorter lengths of wire (12 inches or so) that have the same two-pole plug on one end, and the other end has attachments for the battery posts. That cord terminates into a two-pole plug. It comes in two parts: the main section is the charger that plugs into an outlet and has a long cord (about 10 foot) coming off it.
